Performing Arts
Learners will have the opportunity to study and gain a BTEC Qualification in Performing Arts during their time in Post 16. The qualification will allow learners to express themselves in a creative way and will showcase their uniqueness and passion for music, dance and drama.
Modules covered include developing skills for performing arts, preparing for and rehearsing for a performing arts production, and contributing to the staging of a production. As part of their studies, learners will also have the opportunity to access The Harpham Company Youth Theatre School in Sprotbrough in order to complete the practical elements of their course.
Performing arts activities, in particular, provide learners with opportunities to develop the skills needed to be successful both in life and at work. Music, theatre, and speech and debate activities are ideal for developing critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Learners will further develop their life skills, they will build relationships and discover ways of self-expression. On completion of their course, learners will have developed a set of transferable skills that will benefit them on their chosen progression route into further study or employment.
Participating in performing arts can help improve learners’ confidence and self-esteem, having a positive impact on their academic achievements and how they interact with others. Learners will have the opportunity to showcase their talents to a live audience and the opportunity to connect with people through performance. Each year learners will take part in a live stage production, which parents, carers and school staff are invited to watch.
