Post 16 Work PLACEMENTS AND INTERNSHIPS

First-hand experience of the working world is extremely valuable in developing a young person’s employability skills. Work placements allow our young people opportunities to make more informed choices about their futures and their career choices.

Work experience is an invaluable opportunity to gain an insight into the world of work and to widen our young people’s awareness of different career opportunities available to them. It gives them the real life experience of working in job roles within a variety of organisations, companies or career sectors that are of interest to them.

Work experience also gives young people the opportunity to learn new skills, build upon their existing ones and to gain the confidence to make informed choices and decisions about their career pathways. Work experience is also ideal for our young people to practice and apply their social skills.

In Years 12 and 13, our young people attend work experience for one day a week in a range of industries such as hospitality, retail, IT, childcare and construction. We have excellent working relationships with local businesses and organisations and this ensures that our young people are supported in inclusive, positive and meaningful work experiences.

By the time our young people reach Year 14 they have built upon and gained extensive experience within the workplace which further develops their existing knowledge and employability skills. This wealth of real life experience bridges the gap into the world of work, preparing our young people for attending internships for two to three days a week. The ultimate aim is four our young people to move on to employment, apprenticeships, further education or internships by the end of Year 14
