GCSE ENglish
Pupils accessing the GCSE English curriculum will study an even balance of fiction and nonfiction from the 19th century onwards. They will learn to analyse, evaluate, compare and synthesise texts, responding to questions requiring increasingly complex and extended answers. Texts studied will include extracts from modern, high quality novels as well as letters and articles written by famous writers of the past, including Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde. In writing, pupils will build their repertoire of both transactional and creative genres, developing their use of language devices and vocabulary alongside their understanding of sentence and text structure. They will practise oracy skills through high expectations of group discussions in lessons, opportunities to present topics to their peers, class debates, and question and answer sessions.
